Sajjige (Rava) Rotti / ಸಜ್ಜಿಗೆ (ರವೆ) ರೊಟ್ಟಿ


3 cups  Small Semolina (Bombay Rava) / ಸಣ್ಣ ಸಜ್ಜಿಗೆ (ರವೆ)

1 Tbs  Rice flour / ಅಕ್ಕಿ ಹುಡಿ

1/4 - 1/2 tsp  Chilly powder / ಮೆಣಸಿನ ಹುಡಿ

Pinch of Turmeric powder / ಅರಶಿನ ಹುಡಿ

1/4 tsp  Cumin seeds / ಜೀರಿಗೆ

Pinch of Asafoetida / ಚಿಟಿಕೆ ಇಂಗು

1 - 2 tsp  Sugar / ಸಕ್ಕರೆ

1 cup  grated Coconut / ತುರಿದ ತೆಂಗಿನ ಕಾಯಿ

Small piece of Ginger / ಸಣ್ಣ ತುಂಡು ಶುಂಠಿ

8 - 10  strands Curry leaves / ಬೇವಿನ ಸೊಪ್ಪು

2 - 4   Green Chillies / ಹಸಿಮೆಣಸು

Salt to taste / ಉಪ್ಪು 

2  large Onions / ಈರುಳ್ಳಿ 

8 - 10  strands Coriander leaves /  ಕೊತ್ತಂಬರಿ ಸೊಪ್ಪು

Ghee or Oil / ತುಪ್ಪ   ಅಥವಾ ಎಣ್ಣೆ 


Chop onion, coriander leaves, curry leaves and green chillies into very small pieces as shown in the picture below. Put grated coconut, ginger, green chillies, curry leaves in a mixer and crush them together.

Put semolina, cumin seeds, chilly powder, turmeric powder, asafoetida, salt in a vessel. Mix well by adding sufficient amount of water. Keep it aside for about 30 mins.(The consistency of the batter should be like that of thick milkshake.)(If it absorbs water, add sufficient amount of water to make it like thick milkshake.) Add chopped ingredients, crushed coconut mixture to the vessel containing batter and mix well.

Heat the Tava(Iron Tava preferred). Put small round Rottis as shown in the picture below. Add 1 tsp of oil/ghee on top of Rotti, cover it in a lid and cook it for a minute in medium flame. Cook other side of the Rotti as well for about 4-5 mins in medium flame.

Serve hot along with any chutney, chutney powder or sambar. Ingredients mentioned above will serve 8-10 large Sajjige Rottis.
