Raw Jackfruit (Halasinakayi) Chips (Sonte) | ಹಲಸಿನಕಾಯಿ ಚಿಪ್ಸ್ (ಸೋಂಟೆ) ~ 2 Types (ವಿಧ)

Deep fried snack from Raw Jackfruit

Ingredients  |  ಬೇಕಾಗುವ ಪದಾರ್ಥಗಳು:

Plain (Salted) Chips (ಸಾದಾ ಚಿಪ್ಸ್):
5 litre utensil full of sliced Raw Jackfruit  |  5 ಲೀಟರ್ ಪಾತ್ರೆ ತುಂಬ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿದ ಹಲಸಿನಕಾಯಿ
3 - 4 Tbs Salt Water  |  ಉಪ್ಪು ನೀರು
Oil for frying  |  ಕರಿಯಲು ಎಣ್ಣೆ

Recipe (ಮಾಡುವ ವಿಧಾನ):

Apply little oil on your hands and cut the whole raw jackfruit into two halves. Take each piece and cut it into two halves as shown in the picture below.

Take one half and cut it into medium sized long pieces as shown in the picture below.

Remove the inner part of the jackfruit as shown in the picture below.

Separate the jackfruits as shown in the picture below.

Remove the seeds and other unwanted things from each jackfruit as shown in the picture below.

Cut the jackfruits into thin long pieces as shown in the picture below.

Put little amount of water, salt in a bowl. Mix them well and keep it aside.
Keep oil in a thick bottomed vessel and heat. Put the chopped raw jackfruit into hot oil and fry them in medium high flame. Once it is almost fried sprinkle salt water and fry them until they turn golden in color.

Once they are cooled to room temperature, keep them in an airtight container. Serve along with coffee or tea.

Spicy Chips (ಖಾರ ಚಿಪ್ಸ್ ):
2 cups Plain Chips  (Sonte)  |  ಸಾದಾ ಚಿಪ್ಸ್  (ಸೋಂಟೆ)
1/4 - 1/2 tsp Chilly powder  |  ಮೆಣಸಿನ ಹುಡಿ
1/4 tsp Chat Masala  |  ಚಾಟ್ ಮಸಾಲಾ

Recipe (ಮಾಡುವ ವಿಧಾನ):
Put 2 cups of plain chips in a bowl as soon as you remove from Oil. 

Add Chilly powder, Chat Masala and mix well. Once cooled store it in an airtight container.

Tips (ಸಲಹೆ):
 * Ripened thin Raw Jackfruits are best suited for this chips
 * Keep the oil in medium flame while putting the Jackfruit slices because oil may overflow if it is very hot
 * Chips should be properly immersed in oil & deep fried in medium high flame with frequent stirring
 * Applying little oil to hands before cutting will reduce sticking of wax
 * To remove the wax from slicer, hold it in flame for few seconds, rub it using a paper or apply little Oil & rub
 * ತೆಳು ತೊಳೆ ಇರುವ ಬಲಿತ ಹಲಸಿನಕಾಯಿ ಚಿಪ್ಸಿಗೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ರುಚಿಯಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ
 * ಹೆಚ್ಚಿದ ಹಲಸಿನಕಾಯಿಯನ್ನು ಎಣ್ಣೆಗೆ ಹಾಕುವಾಗ ಬೆಂಕಿಯು ಮಧ್ಯಮ ಉರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇರಲಿ. ಎಣ್ಣೆ ತುಂಬಾ ಬಿಸಿ ಇದ್ದರೆ ಹೊರಚೆಲ್ಲುವ ಸಾಧ್ಯತೆ ಇದೆ
 * ಸೋಂಟೆಯನ್ನು ಎಣ್ಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿ ಮುಳುಗಿಸಿ ಆಗಾಗ ತಿರುವುತ್ತಾ ಮಧ್ಯಮ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಉರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕರಿಯಿರಿ
 * ಹೆಚ್ಚುವ ಮೊದಲು ಕೈಗೆ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಎಣ್ಣೆ ಹಚ್ಚುವುದರಿಂದ ಮೇಣ ಕೈಗೆ ಅಷ್ಟು ಅಂಟಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದಿಲ್ಲ
 * ಕತ್ತಿಯಿಂದ ಮೇಣವನ್ನು ತೆಗೆಯಲು, ಅದನ್ನು ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಹೊತ್ತು ಬೆಂಕಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇಟ್ಟು, ಒಂದು ಪೇಪರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಉಜ್ಜಿ ಅಥವಾ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಎಣ್ಣೆ ಹಚ್ಚಿ, ಉಜ್ಜಿ ತೆಗೆಯಬಹುದು

Nice one.Nowadays riped jackfruit wafers also available commercially.How is it prepared.

I used to help amma in preparing this. It would get over in no time. Because of the time taken to cut the jackfruit into stripes we have almost stopped preparing this and have resorted to the store available ones..
