 * Left over gravy can be stored in refrigerator or freezer

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

 * ಗ್ರೇವಿಯನ್ನು ಮೊದಲೇ ತಯಾರು ಮಾಡಿ ಇಡಬಹುದು ಆದರೆ ಸರ್ವ್ ಮಾಡುವಾಗ ಬಿಸಿ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಿ

 * ಗ್ರೇವಿಯನ್ನು ಕುದಿಸುವಾಗ ರುಚಿ ನೋಡಿಕೊಂಡು ನಿಮಗೆ ಬೇಕಾದ ಪದಾರ್ಥಗಳನ್ನು ಹಾಕಿ

 * ಉಳಿದ ಗ್ರೇವಿಯನ್ನು ಫ್ರಿಡ್ಜ್ / ಫ್ರೀಜರ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಇಟ್ಟು, ಬೇಕಾದಾಗ ಉಪಯೋಗಿಸಿ

@Chaitra,

Taste of Masala Puri is not unique. It differs from one place to another! In places like Mumbai the Masala Puri will not be served with the gravy or masala. There is a huge difference in taste between the masala puris served within bangalore itself (Gaadis, Chat Centers, etc..)

Some people like their masala puris to be very spicy, some people like it sweet, some people like it dry. It all depends on what taste we are used to.

It would be better if we keep on tasting the gravy at least 8-10 times while cooking until we get the taste according to our taste buds.

According to me the recipe that I posted here tastes like the one we get in Bangalore Gaadis. I have received the same feedback from many people who have tried it!

Hi Veni,

I want to try this recipe today for my hubby who is a die hard fan of masala puri, and I have a question. I know you have mentioned that we need 2 cups of soaked beans. How much of dry beans would that be? around 1 cup? or do you mean 2 cups of beans, soaked? Just to be sure.

Love your blog!

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Krishnaveni.. Nimma shrama mathe olle kelsakke nanna abhinandanegalu..

I just love your recipe for the masala puri. It is definitely one the best recipes available on the internet (I did some variations to your recipe to suit my taste)! The taste is very similar to the gaadi masala puri we get in bangalore.. which is my all time favorite snack. Looking foward to more street food recipes on your blog!

Anjana Kasargod said...

OMG! Would die looking at this. Have been looking for typical gaadi masala recipe. By reading the comments I have no doubt this is the one I have been looking for. But this masala is greenish while gaadi masala usually will be reddish (you know what I mean :)). Why is it so? Pls excuse me as I am an amateur cook.

Unknown said...

Hello,

I am a first tym visitor to ur site n all recipes looks too yummy....Regarding Masala puri, am gonna try this today as my hubby dear loves it.......my doubt is how long should i soak hesarukaalu? appreciate your quick reply

Krishnaveni Nalka said...

@Anjana Kasaragod,

Yes, as I mentioned already in the comments section, the Masala Puri taste varies from region to region. This looks similar to the one which I used to taste in Bangalore Gadi Masala Puri.

If you want red gravy, you can try adding Red Chillies instead of Green Chillies and also adding some turmeric powder.

@Manasa Reddy,

Usually all the grams like Green Gram Seeds, Green Peas, Channa, etc should be soaked in water for 8-10 hrs.

I usually add finely ground powder of 1 star anise(Hindi - Anasphal, Malayalam -Takkolam,
Tamil - Anashuppu), when the masala is boiling. It will give you more of a gaadi taste. Please try it once.

Can we prepare the gravy a day ahead and use it?

Krishnaveni Nalka said...

@Poornima,

Yes, you can prepare the gravy a day ahead and use but refrigerate once it is completely cooled to room temperature.
If there is some left over gravy, you can also keep it in freezer and use it whenever you want but the taste is not as good as the fresh one we prepare....
